When to replace business laptops (before they replace you)

Age is a hint, not the whole story

A well-looked-after three-year-old laptop with an SSD might be fine. A two-year-old budget model grinding through Windows updates might not. We look at symptoms: boot time, disk health, battery swell, and whether it still receives security updates.

Signs it's costing you money

• Staff arrive early to "let it wake up" before meetings
• Fans sound like a jet engine doing email
• It won't run current Windows or macOS versions supported by your line-of-business apps
• Repairs exceed half the replacement cost
• You can't enable BitLocker/FileVault or MFA apps reliably

Plan refresh in waves

Replacing fifteen machines the week before payroll is how friendships end. We stagger by department, image devices beforehand, and migrate data during lunch so nobody loses a Friday afternoon.
